A candidacy, which has already received the support (in words) of the Minister of Sport, Vincenzo Spadafora, in the past few hours.
We are talking about Turin (and all of Piedmont) and the possibility that it hosts the Winter Universiade of 2025: the letter of candidacy to be submitted to the Government was signed at the Piedmont Region headquarters, also involving the City of Turin in the project. '' University of Turin, the Polytechnic of Turin, the University of Eastern Piedmont, Edisu Piedmont and the University Sports Center of Turin.
The application date to the FISU (International University Sports Federation), after the suspension of all international activities due to the pandemic in progress, has been postponed to December 2020, but a budget will already be presented by the end of July to Minister Spadafora, inspired by the principles of containment of overall spending, involving institutions, universities and the whole territory.
The technical offices of the same universities are preparing an economic quantification of the cost of the works in capital account, necessary for the construction of the athletes village which will then become residence for university students, once the event has ended. These structures will be built according to the most modern usability criteria in order to also accommodate athletes with disabilities who will participate in the Para Universiade and the Special Olympics, which would always be held in Turin in the weeks following the Universiade.
