Thomas Bach spoke to the Iranian climber without a veil

The president of the IOC seems to have reached Elnaz Rekabi by telephone, at the center of a case that continues to be talked about.

The climber, who became the object of attention of the Iranian moral police after competing without a veil in Seoul, at the Asian climbing championships, as a gesture of protest against the ayatollahs regime. Thomas Bach asked the 33-year-old bronze medalist in the combined 2021 World Cup to be heard at least once a month, to inform him if any problems arise. The same concern had also been for the Chinese tennis player Shuai Peng, of whom, however, there has been no news for months. In this case, then there would be a small problem: Rekabi is forced under house arrest, apparently with a relative. It cannot be trained. And even if her mobile phone, which had been confiscated along with her passport, had been returned to her before the return flight to Tehran, it is very likely that all her communications will be monitored.
