The FISU (International University Sports Federation) has chosen Turin to host the 2025 Winter University World Games, the 32nd edition of the Universiade linked to snow and ice sports.
The award ceremony for the Games was held yesterday in the Aula Magna of the University of Turin Cavallerizza Reale. There will be 90 days for the constitution of the Organizing Committee, the finding of the necessary financial coverage that will lead to the signature of the award contract. The delegation made up of Eric Saintrond (FISU General Secretary / CEO), Lorenzo Lentini (FISU Executive Committee) and Milan Augustin (Director of the FISU Winter University World Games) met with Piedmontese academic, territorial institutions and parliamentarians.
The President of the Piedmont Region, Alberto Cirio, the Councilor for Sport of the Piedmont Region and President of the Promoting Committee, Fabrizio Ricca, the Mayor of the City of Turin, Chiara Appendino, the President of CUSI (Italian University Sports Center), spoke. Antonio Dima, the President of the Turin University Sports Center, Riccardo D''Elicio, the Rector of the University of Turin, Stefano Geuna. The initial greetings saw the intervention in direct connection by the Undersecretary for Sport, Valentina Vezzali, who underlined the importance of this event for our country, for Italian sport and for the international relaunch of the city of Turin. .
These are the words of Riccardo D''Elicio: “Turin will have the honor of hosting this great event in 2025. After two years of hard work, I feel obliged to thank the whole CUS team. It is an honor to think of having the opportunity to relive the emotions of the 2007 edition. This event will relaunch our territory, Turin as a city with a strong university vocation. A unique moment for Italian university sport ".
