Biography: Franz Pfnür, born in 1908 in Berchtesgaden, was a pioneer of German alpine skiing. At the 1936 Winter Olympics in Garmisch-Partenkirchen he won gold in the alpine combined, becoming the first ever male Olympic champion in alpine skiing.
