30 years with the "who's who" of the circus
When the German Egon Hirt won - in 1983 - the very first European Cup Obereggen, could not imagine that the great future in front of him this race. Reinfried Herbst Obereggen came first in 2008 and second in 2009 and then winning the World Cup Slalom 2009/2010. And the winner of multiple Obereggen Andre Myhrer (winner 2004, 2005, 2007, 2010) won the World Cup slalom in 2011/12.
The memory of three men
The European Cup Obereggen from its beginnings reminds the brothers Karl and Peter Pichler. Both lived for skiing and both died tragically, while shooting for their sport. Karl died in a car accident in 1982 in New Zealand where he was with the national team alpine skiing as a coach. Peter died in an avalanche in Jochgrimm in 1977.
At the European Cup Obereggen is also associated with another name, that of Bruno Fusmini: The co-founder was the race director from 1983 to 1999 - until his death.
Since then Siegfried Gallmetzer plays the dual role of race director and president of the organizing committee and leads a team that enjoys a reputation as a capable organizer. Remembering 2012
It was one of the European Cup slalom on the edge of cents, that which took place in December 2012 on the runway Oberholz Obereggen. At the end won the 20 year old Austrian Manuel Feller, with the 26 year old Trent Stefano Gross late measly four cents after two rounds.
