The European Cup returns for the ninth consecutive time to Andalo, where many big names on the international scene are expected, including established athletes and young people on the launching pad. In the competition there will be female skiers representing 21 nations, starting with the strong representatives of Austria, Norway, Switzerland, France, Germany, Italy, Slovenia and Sweden, just to name a few, up to the United States, Japan and Australia. Paganella will be the fifth stage of the women's European Cup season, the second of the giant after the Austrian one in Mayrhofen, where the 1999 class of Liechtenstein, Charlotte Lingg, won ahead of Franziska Gritsch and the Swiss Lorina Zelger. Awaiting them, for confirmation, is one of the most spectacular and demanding tracks of the circuit, that of the Olympic track 2, the same that hosted the previous editions. Over the next weekend the Norwegian national team will be led by 21-year-old Marte Monsen, already victorious in Andalo in 2019 and fresh from the first top 10 in the World Cup, with sixth place in the parallel of Lech last month. Among the big names, then, stand out that of the French class 1995 Clara Direz, an athlete already capable of winning in the World Cup (in the parallel of Sestriere in January 2020) and twice on the podium in Paganella in 2018, and those of the Slovenian Neja Dvornik (16th and 19th in the two Levi slaloms in November) and Tina Robnik, this year eighth in the parallel of Lech and 22nd in the opening in Soelden, with six total top 10 in the World Cup. The Swiss patrol will also be fierce and qualified, which will be able to count on Camille Rast (already second in Andalo in December 2020), on Simone Wild (victorious in 2016), on Andrea Ellenberger (in the season 24th in Soelden and 12th in the parallel of Lech ), on the emerging Selina Egloff and on Vanessa Kasper. Austria, for its part, has placed three athletes among the top six in the first European Cup giant of the season and will now go hunting for the big target, focusing on Franziska Gritsch, Sophia Waldauf and Nina Astner, while Germany will be led by Paulina Schlosser (fourth in Mayrhofen) and by Jessica Hilzinger, who already scored points in the two World Cup slaloms held in Levi, with a record in the European Cup of six wins and fourteen podiums. Sweden, on the other hand, will be led by Sara Rask (two victories in the European Cup in 2019) and will also field the daughter of art Lisa Nyberg, born in 2002. Among the many young prospects, the aforementioned Charlotte Lingg and the Croatian stand out. Zrinka Ljutic, who achieved two victories in the European Cup last season (one in giant and one in slalom). Last but not least, there will be the large Italian patrol, led by Roberta Midali, who in the first part of the season trod the snow of the World Cup in Soelden, Lech, Levi and Killington, with a first and third place in the last edition of the Cup Europe. In Mayrhofen, the best of the blue (eighth) was Ilaria Ghisalberti, who will now try to exploit the home factor, as well as Valentina Cillara Rossi (on the podium in Andalo in 2019), the athlete who grew up in the Trentino Committee Francesca Fanti, therefore Elisa Platino and Vivien Insam, both in the points in the first European Cup giant of the season. Together with them, Carole Agnelli, Andrea Craievich, Laura Steinmair, Annette Belfrond, Melissa Astegiano, Carlotta Saracco, Giulia Tintorri, Laura Rota, Martina Marangon, Vicky Bernardi, Carlotta De Leonardis and Flavia Giordano also appear on the list.
