No Italian in the top ten of a speed race is a rarity, or rather an exception if we talk about this season, and in the first of the two downhill events in Crans-Montana certainly the blue did not have the best day possible, even if it was for two absolute rookies in the World Cup as Elena Dolmen and Monica Zanoner.
It must be said, however, that Sofia Goggia's balance in the end is not so negative, given that the goal of this weekend in the Canton of Valais is to defend the margin against Corinne Suter, who finished tenth (just two positions ahead of the Bergamo rider), reaching -65 when there are only two tests left. "From Cortina onwards I had something that guided me for the Olympic dream - explained Goggia in Rai, in the post-race interview with Simone Benzoni, then referring to the difficulties encountered on returning from China - Here in Crans-Montana I have never felt good, the real challenge now is to rebuild that necessary trust and do the things that came naturally to me.
Sooner or later, after all, the moment comes when you lose and you have to know how to accept it, since for over a year, every time I reached the finish line downhill, I had always won ".
The blue leader also spoke of the conflict in Ukraine which is affecting everyone closely: “I am very worried, as we all believe, and I hope that it will be resolved as soon as possible. We are not used to war, only our grandparents told us about it, it is something very far away ”.
Nadia Delago, although she certainly did not have a great feeling with Mont Lachaux as she had guessed in testing, nevertheless obtained a decent top 15. "I enjoyed myself, even though I didn't ski very well - she confessed in the interview with Rai Sport - I was not very safe after rehearsals, where I jumped two doors, for tomorrow I'll have to try to be much cleaner and stay more closed where I can, as well as letting go of them at the bottom ”.
Elena Curtoni, at the end of 16th, felt a good confidence, but she was not able to turn it into the race as she did in the second downhill a year ago, in which she got on the podium. “Today you shouldn't like yourself too much, maybe I was too incisive and you had to let go of the ski, also because the snow had changed a bit ''.
This is what I will have to do in the second descent, I like the track and the feeling is there anyway ".
