The non-dispute of the two women's descents, scheduled for next 5-6 November and officially canceled today after the FIS snow check that put an end to the hopes of a Speed Opening at least for the girls, also changes the balances of a cup calendar that, after the men's one (not even the two descents of the jet men will be recovered, which drop from 14 to 12 appointments in the queen discipline), is unbalancing towards the technical tests, even if the Soelden giant itself has yet to find a relocation.
If the race skipped last Saturday on the Rettenbach finds a "safe" recovery date, there will be 10 giants and 11 slaloms for the women's calendar, with the parallel of Lech / Zuers (provided that it is disputed, currently there is no snow in the locality of Vorarlberg) and just 18 fast trials, now equally divided between downhill and super-g.
Certainly not the best for the hopes of an absolute crystal ball for Sofia Goggia and Lara Gut-Behrami in the first place, in the distance comparison with Mikaela Shiffrin and Petra Vlhova (who had already decided not to compete in Zermatt-Cervinia), but also for Federica Brignone herself, although the Aosta Valley has technical contexts much more suited to her characteristics, especially in super-g.
On the definitive cancellation of the Speed Opening, with the 2022/23 cup immediately losing four races which represented the great novelty of the new year, FIS general manager Michel Vion expressed himself again. “We have hoped until the end, both us and the organizers. Unfortunately the cancellation of the women's races is inevitable, we thank the OC for the incredible commitment and we appreciate that every possible effort has been made to kick off the races on the Gran Becca.

If Vion's optimism clashes with what was declared in recent days by Markus Waldner, who is decidedly more realistic about the critical issues related to the situation of the glaciers and the opportunity to compete in this period, the same great head of the organizing committee of the project “Speed Opening Matterhorn Cervino”, Franz Julen, insists on the possibility of re-proposing the descents next autumn, hoping for a different climate since the summer. "If in the last 7 days the temperatures had been 2-3 degrees lower, there would have been abundant snowfalls to the finish line and we would have also been able to artificially snow - underlined Franz Julen - Nature has vetoed, this must be respected. and accepted. The FIS had no choice but to cancel the women's competitions as well.
