Falling in training at Copper Mountain, the American sprinter will have to postpone her expected return to the race, almost two years after Are's injury. And for her comes the encouragement of her friend Lindsey Vonn.

A new stop, very bitter, when she felt ready to finally return to the race. An emotion that Laurenne Ross has not experienced since 5 February 2019, the day of the world super-g of Are in which she fell without too many consequences, before getting much more hurt in the warm-up of the third round of the world championship descent. A complex injury to the left knee (collateral, meniscus and involvement of the tibio-fibular joint) that forced one of the American speed veterans to miss the entire 2019/2020 season, to return in good condition in the one that will start the next 5 December with the first of the two super-gs in Sankt Moritz.
In the Engadine, however, we will not see the 32-year-old from Oregon, who announced via social media that she had again injured her left knee: Ross fell a couple of days ago, ending up in safety nets, during a giant training session at Copper Mountain, where the stars and stripes national team is preparing en masse for the resumption of the World Cup, including Mikaela Shiffrin projected to return to Levi's two slaloms.
Laurenne, who in recent weeks had launched a fundraiser to self finance the season, given that being part of team A (where only Shiffrin herself and her colleague in the speed team, Breezy Johnson, keep her company) does not allow her to cover the necessary expenses, he explained his current situation as follows: "I cannot express how broken my heart is, I hit my left knee again and ended up against the nets and, even though I should be able to avoid surgery, I am very sore and it will take time to recover - the bitter words of the woman who collected two second places in CdM, downhill in Garmisch in 2013 and in super-g in Soldeu in 2016 - I hope to be back on skis in the coming weeks, but in these two days I have thought “Again? Why now? Why me?". I am discouraged, angry and scared, but at the same time hopeful.
I'll make it, I'll come out stronger whatever happens ”. Lindsey Vonn herself, a great friend of Laurenne, immediately thought of encouraging her as well as another former colleague of the caliber of Julia Mancuso. "One step at a time, you will make it."
