The two women's days in Sestriere ends with a Slalom

It will be a special slalom Sunday to conclude the two-day Women's World Cup in the Piedmont region.

Sestriere, in addition to being the highest in Italian town (2035 meters above sea level), is one of the historical sites of alpine skiing. It has already hosted 28 women's events of the World Cup, the first of which - a downhill - in 1967; to these must be added the World Cup of 1997 and the technical tests of the 2006 Turin Olympics for a total of 37 top-level trials held in the Piedmont hill. It was, however, almost 9 years Sestriere not hosted a competition of the Women's World Cup. On 9 and 10 February 2008 they were held in fact a dive - won by Lindsey Vonn - and a Super G, in which excelled on a par Andrea Fischbacher and Fabienne Suter. Sunday is held one special slalom, a discipline that Sestriere has hosted for the greatest number of times, as many as 13, the last of which, however, March 13, 2004 which was won by Marlies Schild. The queen of this race is Janica Kostelic, who between 1999 and 2000 he won 3 times; Croatian is followed by Anja Pärson which is 2, but that some 3 when you consider the Olympic gold won in these snows in Turin in 2006. The two champions of the early years of the new century are also the head of the list of podiums, 3 each, as many Tanja Poutiainen yet has never won one slalom in Sestriere (2 seconds and 1 third place). If even in this case were taken into account all the top-level competitions, Pärson is solitary leader at 4 podiums - including 3 wins Olympic gold in Turin and one second place. One placement in the top three for Italy in the Slalom in Sestriere valid for the World Cup, about Maria Rosa Quario who won 14 December 1983. However, we can not forget the incredible success of the World Cup of 1997: l ' gold went to Deborah Compagnoni, silver Lara Gizzards, only blue double in a female world championship race in Alpine skiing. For the record, the bronze went all'elvetica Karin Roten. Finally, we report the result of the race that earned him the Olympic title in Turin 2006. As already mentioned, Anja Pärson, put the gold medal, the silver went to Nicole Hosp and Marlies Schild bronze neck. The Slalom in Sestriere Female will take place Sunday, December 11. First heat at the start at 10.30, the second at 13.30.
