The Ski World Cup Alpine Female dispute the final races of 2016 in Semmering. It starts with a giant slalom.

Semmering is a town in the district of Neukirchen in Lower Austria. He entered in the calendar of the World Cup in 1995, since 1998, alternating with Lienz in hosting a Giant Slalom and one at Christmas. However we do not compete here since 2012, as in 2014 the lack of snow forced the organizers to give up; FIS moved the tests laid down in Küthai.
The first race will be a giant slalom. In all there are 8 races in Semmering in this discipline, with Austria who is the host: 5 are the successes of the landlord, with Kathrin Zettel only able to repeat having failed to win in 2006 and 2008 . the other top places are about Anita Wachter in the first edition of 1998, Marlies Schild, who won in 2004 the only career race among large piles, and Anna Fenninger, last triumph in 2012.
The superiority of the landlord is also confirmed by the ranking of the podium: in addition to the winners, have closed at least one race in the top three also Alexandra Meissnitzer, Nicole Hosp (2 times) and Elisabeth Görgl. Wunderteam memorable for the 2006 edition, when Zettel won ahead of Hosp and Schild for what is the only hat-trick in the history of the Semmering giant.
Are thus three foreign to having conquered Semmering: Sonja Nef we succeeded December 30, 2000, Tessa Worley December 28, 2010 and Karen Putzer, which consequently is the only Italian able to triumph in the Giant of Semmering. That of 28 December 2002 was a particularly memorable match for the Azzurri as he finished in third place Denise Karbon. The third and last Italian podium in this race was won by Manuela Mölgg, that in 2008 he came second behind only Zettel.
Giant Slalom in Semmering will be held Wednesday, December 28, with the first heat scheduled at 10:30 and the second at 13:30.
