The season started very well with the fifth place in the downhill in Lake Louise. What has changed in you compared to past seasons?
This summer I tried to do a good preparation, especially athletically. I tried to take care of the details to be ready at the beginning of the season. We have worked very well on skis, we have always found good conditions. Surely the staff has helped me a lot to grow, to improve and to make this small step.
Is there any blue team athlete you took as an example to improve yourself?
I believe that one can learn something from each of them. They welcomed me well from the first year I joined the team. Hanna Schanrf and Elena Fanchini always gave me advice. Hanna, still injured, before the Lake Louise race told me what was the key point of the track and how to try to do it. I certainly owe a lot to them too.
Next stop is the Saslong, the home track where you grew up. What effect does it make you compete in Val Gardena?
It's incredible. When they told me that we would race in Val Gardena, I did not believe it because I never thought there would be this possibility. It is a unique emotion. It is the track that is near my house, where I grew up and that allowed me to always live this passion. Racing at home will be a spectacular thing, I can not wait.
Do you work out on Saslong when you're at home?
No, I do free field. It is always difficult to close it for training.
What do you think are the points of the track where you can make a difference and maybe win the race?
The start should be at the Sochers wall, it will be a very short track. So it will be necessary to give the maximum from top to bottom. Then we must also see how they prepare the track, the humps and how the track will be.
Being the home track, you will be cheering many people in your country. Does he put pressure on you?
No, I want to enjoy the day. I can not wait, I'm very happy to be able to race at home. I try to concentrate on my performance, to think of skiing well without being too influenced by what is around.
Your uncles, Oskar and Karla Delago, have been two former World Cup skiers. What relationship do you have with them, do they give you advice?
I have a wonderful relationship with my uncle Oskar. Often after the races he watches on TV, he writes to me and gives me some advice. It helps me a lot.
In addition to the uncles there is also a sister Nadia who participates in the European Cup competitions. Is Delago's talent at home?
Yes, since we grew up in Val Gardena, we put skis on our feet from an early age and this passion was immediately transmitted to us. I think we both have to thank our parents who have always allowed us to do this sport and have made so many sacrifices to allow us to live this dream.
With the fifth place of Lake Louise you could be part of the blue contingent for the World Cup in Ã…re. For you it would be the first participation in a World Cup ...
Yes it would be my first World Cup. Surely it is a goal of this season, but now I try to think race by race, day and then at the end the calculations will be done.
