Ten days after the unsuccessful weekend in Sankt Moritz, this time there should be no problems, with good weather forecasts for the race days, for the opening of the speed season also for women.
On the Oreiller-Killy in Val d''Isère, which hosted the jet men last weekend, we immediately return to the track after the two giants of Courchevel; a triple crucial appointment for the World Cup season, with two descents on Friday and Saturday, in addition to the Sunday super-g. Wednesday the first of the two scheduled tests (start at 11.00, while the races will be held at 10.30), with eight blue at the starting gate and the absence, as known, of Nicol Delago who ended the season prematurely with the rupture of the Achilles tendon of the left leg.
The first blue at the start of tomorrow's test is the one on whom the greatest expectations are placed, after the first good results in the giant: Sofia Goggia, who on the "O.K." has already achieved three podiums (two downhill and one in super-g between 2016 and 2017, without being able to win), will start with bib number 6, immediately followed by Elena Curtoni, just back from a great weekend between the wide doors in Courchevel and, above all, from the first career victory last season in Bansko.
Number 13 and number 17 respectively for Marta Bassino and Federica Brignone, who will participate both in the descents and in the super-g, like the other four blue protagonists of the French weekend. We are talking about Francesca Marsaglia, bib 19 in the first test, Laura Pirovano (with 23), Nadia Delago (41) and Verena Gasslitter (60).
As already announced by the person concerned, Mikaela Shiffrin will not be at the start, with the United States finding Laurenne Ross after the many physical problems, but also Alice McKennis Duran and Breezy Johnson with important ambitions, at least in perspective. Ester Ledecka will be there, bib number 5 in the first timed test, with the Czech woman sacrificing the PGS snowboard in Carezza (scheduled for Thursday) after having already won in Cortina; for the two Olympic champion the assault on the crystal ball of the queen discipline is the goal, with the defense entrusted to Corinne Suter. The holder of the two speed specialty cups, leads a Swiss squadron of 13 athletes (6 will be selected for the last three places), with Gisin and Gut-Behrami (number 1 in the inaugural test) ready to play important cards.
There is good news from home Austria, with the lightning return after knee injury of Nina Ortlieb, who carried out a decisive test at the beginning of the week on the snows of Lech, and those of Venier and Tippler after contracting Covid. Pure Ragnhick Mowinckel will dive back downhill after breaking the ice in giant, but there will also be a lot of interest around Ilka Stuhec, who did not have a very simple preparation, but still remains one of the references of the descent.
67 athletes registered for the first test, which will not see Tessa Worley, Alice Robinson and Wendy Holdener at the start, engaged only in the super-g on Sunday even if the Swiss has yet to dissolve the reservation regarding her participation.
