The US champion spoke before returning to the race in Courchevel: "In the pre season I could only ski 20 days instead of 60, I could return to fast races for the second part of the season".

After having skipped Soelden, Lech and Sankt Moritz, even if at the end of the races she lost only a couple to her rivals, Mikaela Shiffrin is ready for her first giants of the 2020/21 season, returning to a discipline that she no longer tastes from last January 18 in Sestriere.
On the snows of Reiteralm, the three-time World Cup queen has put together a series of good training days on technical disciplines, on which she will concentrate for a large part of this season. Mikaela herself confirmed this in the last meeting with the media: "Usually we put together about sixty days on skis in the pre-season phase, this year I managed to do only twenty, that's why I put priority on giant and slalom. I'm not ready to line up in all the stages of the World Cup ”, reported Ski Chrono about the choice to avoid fast races at least until 2021.
"It was great to be able to try material these days in Reiteralm (a stone's throw from Altenmarkt, home to its Atomic ski brand), which we haven't been able to do in the past few months, but if you ask me about downhill and super- g, I can confirm that I don't wear long skis at Bansko (when Mikaela won the super-g in front of Marta Bassino, six days before the tragedy of her father). Perhaps by the end of the season I will return to racing in speed, but I will only do it when I am competitive ”.
And about the fight for the overall World Cup, Shiffrin excludes himself: "I try not to have unrealistic expectations - explains Mikaela - Petra, Fede, Michelle ... there are many very competitive athletes and, at the moment, I don't see myself in able to fight with them ".
If already from Courchevel we will see a Shiffrin at 70-80%, it is quite clear that that level will soon be able to reach it again.
