Delago sisters, ready to climb again: Nadia and Nicol attack the podium in the second descent

Lake Louise is home to the young girls of Val Gardena, with her younger sister yesterday at the best in her career (sixth) and then literally embraced the splendid return of Nicol, eighth more than 21 months after her last speed race held in February 2020.

Of course, there was above all talk of Sofia Goggia and the "monstrous" gaps inflicted on all rivals in the first downhill of the World Cup season, but the speed opening in Lake Louise, for the Italjet in pink (without by Laura Pirovano, it should be remembered), was also illuminated by the other two top ten placings. Special, for various reasons, the 6th and 8th places conquered by Nadia and Nicol Delago: the South Tyrolean sisters have given themselves a unique day, but it may not be the only one of this Canadian weekend already celebrated yesterday with a beautiful hug between the two. The youngest Nadia (who has just turned 24, there are 22 months of difference between her and Nicol) has taken the best result of her career in the World Cup, sixth just over a tenth from fourth place: her growth it was constant, less evident than Nicol's if you want, but last season the first top ten had already arrived (10th in the first descent of Crans-Montana) and above all a lot of consistency among the best 15. Until yesterday, Nadia Delago had competed in Lake Louise only two years ago, touching the points in the two descents and capturing 4 in the final super-g, while Nicol has some experience on the Canadian track, among other things perfect for her innate qualities of smoothness. The best downhill result is the 5th box of 2018, but there is the pearl of the podium in the super-g two years ago (his only top 3 in the discipline), second behind Rebensburg with an extraordinary comeback in the final stretch . For her, the eighth place in race-1 (two tenths from Siebenhofer's 4th) is equivalent to a rebirth, one year after the rupture of the Achilles tendon suffered in training in Solda, and over 21 months since last speed race held in La Thuile (in the middle there was only the participation in November 2020 at the parallel of Lech / Zuers, a few days before the crash). And be careful because both Nicol and Nadia today will be able to try to attack the podium: the most "expert" (we are still talking about a class of 1996) is back in the 20s and will start with a good bib number 12, the youngest, who left yesterday for second, he drew 10 and will therefore precede his sister by a couple of numbers. It will be curious to see what can happen, in that parterre of arrival, in the space of a few minutes ...
