These are not easy days for the Peterlini family. Martina and Giulia, the Trentino sisters who have been divided for a couple of years (the slalomist already protagonist in CdM is class' '97, Giulia is from 'October' '99), are experiencing a complicated situation linked to injuries.
The more "experienced" Peterlini has had to live for weeks with a disc protrusion that conditioned her already at her debut in Levi, despite getting good points in the first slalom in Finland, and forced her to skip yesterday's parallel in Austria before returning to the World Cup directly at the end of December, in the next match between the narrow posts scheduled in Semmering.
The "little" Giulia, however, in the past few hours has suffered a new, very serious injury: hospitalized in Bolzano, the twenty-one year old under the Fiamme Oro Moena finds herself with her right knee literally destroyed, as she herself told on social media unveiling the new stop that will force her to say goodbye to a 2020/21 season that had yet to see her debut, after that in the final of last season she was experiencing, before the pandemic, a beautiful moment also seasoned by the debut in the European Cup in the giants of Folgaria at the end February. "It is difficult to put into words what I feel at the moment - explains Giulia Peterlini with all the bitterness of this world - Doctors say that I really did a job with flakes: medial meniscus, lateral meniscus, anterior cruciate , severe bone contusion to the femoral condyle and I will have to do a second operation for a cartilage transplant.
After four injuries there are many fears that must be overcome, but I have always tried to keep my emotional battles under control, to give myself the possibility to put myself on the line to the end and be able to reach the maximum of my potential. You can work on the slopes, in the gym, with your own physiotherapist, coach, you can keep the various physical pains under control, but there is one thing that cannot be controlled, destiny. It is utopian to think we can understand it. And it goes without saying that you can also accept it.
I want to believe that everything happens for a reason and that I too, one day, can find answers to the questions that fill my head these days, leaving no room for anything else. I'll get back on my feet again, with the same desire and determination as the first time. Focusing only on the present. In the country of the moment, there are no frustrations or anxieties about what has or has not happened. My knees will heal; I hope my little heart can heal just as quickly ”.
