The Women's World Cup will come alive, after the dispute of five technical races (three slalom, one giant and one parallel), with the beauty of seven fast trials one after the other, from the Lake Louise triptych from 3 to 5 December (two runs and a super-g), to the two super-gs of Sankt Moritz (11-12 of the month) until the following weekend in Val d''Isère, with DH and SG on the “Oreiller-Killy”. Races that will not see Petra Vlhova as the protagonist, at least in the first two stages: as confirmed by her colleague Gianmario Bonzi, the cup holder will miss Lake Louise and Sankt Moritz, remaining to train in the States, using the Copper Mountain Speed Center that she has " sacrificed ”(unlike many colleagues, like Shiffrin herself) to prepare Levi in the smallest details, working on the Finnish snow for almost three weeks. The point is precisely this: with the new staff led by Mauro Pini, the focus is on the great quality of performance in the technical disciplines and the responses are certainly very good, just think that now in slalom the impression is that Petra has a little something more by Mikaela Shiffrin herself, even though she lost the duel yesterday in Killington with that fatal mistake in the middle of the second heat. The downside of a choice that aims at the maximum, between giant and slalom, for the Olympic titles in Beijing? Quite simply, fighting for the absolute crystal ball will be very complicated and certainly it is a renunciation (albeit not definitive, mind you) not a small one. First of all, Mikaela Shiffrin and Lara Gut-Behrami will leave nothing to chance, even if the American will miss some speed stages as always: we will certainly see her at Lake Louise for a comparison with the Ticinese who, now, will have a series of races to close the gap, which rose above 250 points. And it will be the same mission of Sofia Goggia and Federica Brignone who, in consideration of Michelle Gisin's difficulties (remember, she will not compete in Canada), together with Marta Bassino are certainly the main rivals of the Shiffrin - Gut-Behrami - Vlhova trio, also for the calendar that takes away some chance to the specialists of the technical disciplines compared to the past seasons. The Cuneo-based woman will not be at the start of the Lake Louise races, she will focus on the two super-gs of Sankt Moritz and above all on "her" giant, with the probable recovery in Courchevel of the giant canceled in Killington which could propose a two-day one as in 2020 (even if they competed on Saturday and ... Monday), when Marta won race-1 and slipped into the final of the second, one step away from the encore. For Goggia and Brignone, the trio of Lake Louise and the braces in the Engadine and then in Val d''Isère will be crucial: after these seven challenges, we will understand if they can really fight for the overall World Cup.
