As is now tradition, Levi will host the first slalom of the World Cup season and at the starting gate of the "Levi Black" we will still see one of the veterans of the white circus, the one who conquered the gold in PyeongChang 2018 seemed to have put the seal on a very good career.
And yet, at the age of 36, Andrè Myhrer decided to continue, when on the eve of last season a retreat was planned after the world championship at home, in Are; the disappointment he suffered convinced him not to interrupt a career that, it is whispered, could continue until the defense of the title in Beijing 2022, when the Swede will have just turned 39 years old.
Nordanstig's Olympian is certainly not the only example of longevity, even more amazing considering we are talking about a specialty like slalom, where Manfred Moelgg and 40-year-old Julien Lizeroux represent the true highlanders; not surprisingly, Myhrer in this World Cup vintage has decided to completely sacrifice the giant, to try to go back ahead in "his" slalom. The last podium (2nd place) dates back to the city event last February in Stockholm, but among the rapid gates the top 3 is missing from last year's Levi race, with the third place taken home (at a sidereal distance from the duo Hirscher-Kristoffersen) on a track that has always been a friend of good Andrè.
In Lapland, Myhrer won three podiums, making his debut back in 2006: in 2nd place of 2010 followed the victory of 2012, when he burned Hirscher for 6 cents, before returning to the top 3 six years later, precisely in the 2018 edition.
Twelve months later, the "Levi Black" awaits him at the gate and, although starting from the second group of merit after the "descent" of the last season, the Olympic champion in office still believes in us and the trainings carried out right on the track of race last week gave him good feelings.
