The triple Covid case involving the Italian slalom national team, which has been working for ten days in Pozza di Fassa to better prepare for the first two World Cup races between the tight posts, has affected the last few days and, unfortunately, will be so also for the appointments between Alta Badia and Campiglio.
As is well known (although there is no official communication from the FISI to that effect), Giuliano Razzoli and Tommaso Sala tested positive before the two European Cup slaloms on the “Aloch”, as did the coach Stefano Costazza. Back home, the Olympic champion and the Brianza will not be in the race on Monday on the Gran Risa for the first appointment, the calls of which were made official in the afternoon by the same federation (not yet those relating to Campiglio).
Only six Azzurri will be competing in the slalom opening, with the tests fortunately negative for Gross and his teammates, however they remained stationary today as a precaution, thus skipping the second CE race in Pozza: the Fassa driver will therefore lead the team, after the nice 2nd place on Thursday behind Noel, and with him there will be Manfred Moelgg, also in the place of honor in the slalom number 2 of the European Cup, Alex Vinatzer, Federico Liberatore, the returning Simon Maurberger (first race after the Crusader injury last February) and the big news.
This is the third rookie in the two days of Badia, after Franzoni and Della Vite who will compete on Sunday in the giant. Tobias Kastlunger, splendid sixth today in comeback on the Aloch, has in fact won his first call-up to the World Cup. A great opportunity for the 21-year-old from Marebbano, former junior world champion in giant in the youth world championship event in Val di Fassa 2019.
