He was one of the most awaited talents at the start of this World Cup season, but a meniscus injury conditioned his entire preparation, so much so that he gave up his home debut in Lake Louise to return to the race only in Val Gardena, out of points on both descents on the Saslong.
Cameron Alexander, surprise winner last March in Kvitfjell, ex-aequo with Niels Hintermann, finds his smile and success again in the European Cup, imposing himself today in the first of the two descents scheduled in Sankt Moritz (anticipated this morning by a another try, for a real tour de force).
The Canadian, at his second hurray in the continental circuit after the one in February, obtained in “his” Kvitfjell, beat the Austrian Christopher Neumayer by just 9 cents, with the German Vogt third by 3 tenths. Urs Kryenbuehl had to settle for fourth position (+ 0”43), ahead of the French Tuaire and the other Swiss Monney, but seventh (ex aequo with the Canadian Jeffrey Read) is a great Benjamin Jacques Alliod, the best of the blues with only 56 cents of detachment.
The very young Valle d'Aosta is still improving and the podium area doesn't seem so far away; discrete signals also from Lele Buzzi, 12th at 7 tenths from Alexander, then points also arrive for Zazzi, 16th at + 0”83, Molteni (21st at 94 cents) and Franzoso, who started with bib number 1 and thirtieth (detachment of 1”16).
