Total chaos in Wengen: drafts from Austria on cancellation, news are expected from FIS and organizers

On Sunday the confirmation of the races despite the pandemic emergency in the town of the Bernese Oberland, but today everything seems to have changed. And some athletes are heading home.

A total chaos, an amateurish management of the situation at times. Wengen races officially confirmed by FIS on Sunday afternoon? Well, apparently everything will be missed, one of the iconic weekends of the men's World Cup, with the two descents on the Lauberhorn on Friday and Saturday (with the first of three tests scheduled already on Tuesday), in addition to next Sunday's slalom. The news rebounded in the early morning from Austria, reported by journalist Michael Smejkal of the “Salzburger Nachrichten” who was informed, directly by the OESV, of the cancellation of the Swiss stage. The health department of the canton of Bern would have substantially changed its decision, after having given the ok yesterday, which the FIS will now have to officially confirm. We recall that, already on Saturday afternoon, the alarm was triggered for the high number of cases from Covid-19, substantially deriving from the presence of British tourists in Wengen and in the neighboring localities during the Christmas period, with the variant of the virus that worries . Considering that everything is silent from the organizing committee, the confirmations come directly from the social networks, with the same German sprinter Dominik Schwaiger who communicates "Wengen canceled" returning home. The FIS is clearly awaiting and also evaluating the possibility of recovering at least a couple of the three races which, even if the official status is missing, will not be staged in Wengen.
