The "Stelvio" of Bormio awaits the jet men, for the first of the two Valtellina races at the end of 2022 (there will be the super-g on Thursday), never as this year open to so many champions who could conquer it, given that the absolute king of this temple of speed, Dominik Paris, will have to prove tomorrow that he can really start again after a complicated start to the season to say the least.
Six times in first place in the Bormina descent, "Domme" also had some difficulties in practice, but it seems clear that here the feeling is still decidedly better than in the North American and Gardena trips: we'll know everything tomorrow starting at 11.30, when it will be Stefan Rogentin to open the race, visible live on Eurosport 1 and Rai 2.
He picked number 2, perhaps not the best in terms of light, but that shouldn't affect him too much considering that the track will be perfect and even tougher than in practice, the one who is the second blue arrow with Paris, if not the first considering his state of form: Mattia Casse is aiming straight for another podium, he is second today in the last training behind Kilde and with the desire to unblock himself even on a Stelvio that he has always liked and which adapts perfectly to the characteristics of the Piedmontese, but somehow has always betrayed him.
The "tractor" will precede Ganong, Schwaiger and Ferstl, then it will enter the group of the best 10 in the world in a "soft" way with Hemetsberger and Cochran-Siegle, before seeing a very fearsome duo, with their technical quality on such a demanding slope , or rather the one formed by James Crawford (n° 8) and Vincent Kriechmayr (9).
Attention also to Clarey (10), who probably starts one step below the top favourites, among which Aleksander Aamodt Kilde certainly stands out. Bib number 11 for the leader of the downhill cup, winner of three of the four races disputed so far; with Switzerland without Beat Feuz, Hintermann will precede Marco Odermatt, here second a year ago and, with number 13, again in the hunt for his first triumph in the queen discipline.
Crucial moment of the race, given that number 14 will be on the shoulders of Dominik Paris, with Matthias Meyer (positive in practice, watch out for him too) who will follow him with number 15 and Matteo Marsaglia, speaking again of the second sub-group, with number 16 Christof Innerhofer returned to the 20 with Feuz'' absence and picked up the... 20: best time in Monday's race, Inner will try again exactly 14 years after his first cup victory on the Stelvio.
In Italy, the other four registered standard bearers are Nicolò Molteni, bib number 32, Florian Schieder (here he seems a little less competitive than in Val Gardena, but watch out for the South Tyrolean) with number 45, the landlord Pietro Zazzi, fast in practice, with the 48 just ahead of Giovanni Franzoni (n° 50), who will be looking for his first points on the Stelvio in a World Cup downhill.
