Tom Jaeger, Swiss coach, explains what happened. Recovery time: we will try to get back on track for the second part of the season.

A simple game of floorball, or indoor ice hockey (played without skates and protections), and Mauro Caviezel's Achilles tendon crashed.
This is how the winner of the last super-g World Cup got injured on Wednesday, spoiling in a large part the season of confirmation, the one in which the Swiss champion was called to repeat himself after the most beautiful year of his career; at 31, this is clearly a decidedly serious injury for Gino's older brother, who will end up under the knife next week and for whom there is talk of five months of absolute stop.
Basically, we hope to see him again on skis between November and December, just when the speed season on the North American snow should start; a return to the race for the second part of the season is possible, even looking at the previous ones. The same Aksel Lund Svindal, whose tendon crashed on the eve of the opening in Soelden 2014, made it in less than 4 months, in time for the world championships in Beaver Creek, while the following year Beat Feuz ( even if in that case it was a partial injury) he stopped in September and then got on the podium in January.
Caviezel had already been seriously injured in 2011 (knee and shoulder), when he was advised to hang his skis on a nail and the help of Silvano Beltrametti, among others, was decisive. Just Tom Jaeger, Mauro's trainer, is a childhood friend of the former Grisons champion who was paralyzed after the absurd fall of 2001 in Val d''Isère: "It was the classic misstep that has brought to the crash - Jaeger himself explained to the "Blick" - Mauro was injured alone ".
On March 8, on that slightly surreal podium of Kvitfjell after the cancellation of the super-g that sanctioned the success in the super-g cup, Mauro Caviezel was the happiest man in the world, able to climb to the the highest point of his career almost a decade after suffering in the past. Just over three months later, the red and blue champion has returned to practically zero point, but has already promised that he will start again. And it will be nice to cheer him on his way back.
