European Cup in Wengen: Swiss double in second super-g, Molteni out and Schieder good 5th

Gilles Roulin wins again, almost 6 years after the last time, ahead of Monney (and the Finnish Lehto who confirms himself on the podium). The South Tyrolean brings home important points for the specialty classification, the only blue in the twenty. Now we go towards the slopes of Sella Nevea.

Italjet fails to encore, in the new super-g appointment in Wengen, as regards the men's European Cup which today completed the traditional two days preceding the week of the World Cup on the Lauberhorn. Yesterday the first victory in his career at these levels arrived for Nicolò Molteni, today he immediately left the scene in the race that rewarded the Swiss (off the podium on Friday) with a brace opened by Gilles Roulin. After finally finding himself on the upper floors in CdM, the 28-year-old Red Cross won, just think, his eighth victory on the continental circuit almost 6 years after that sensational 3-in-a-row that he achieved in the first month of 2017, when there were seven successes in less than 30 days. Roulin beat his compatriot Alexis Monney by 36 cents, with the Finn Elian Lehto third again, as in race-1, with a delay of 62 cents. Switzerland also places Christophe Torrent fourth (+ 0”85), with a time only one cent less than Florian Schieder. Good fifth place for the South Tyrolean, who started very well in the CdM this year, also because he is worth 45 points which bring the blue to third place in the specialty classification, just 6 points behind the leader Andreas Ploier. The other Italians in the race did less well: only Emanuele Buzzi, 22nd, and Matteo Franzoso, 30th, scored points. The program of the men's European Cup now includes two other speed events, on Italian snow: in fact we are heading towards Friuli, with the two rescheduled descents in Sella Nevea (given the snow situation on the "Di Prampero" in Tarvisio) on Thursday 12 and Friday 13 January, while the women will face the first test towards the Zauchensee triptych this Sunday, with the Austrian resort hosting two descents and a super-g from 10 to 12 January.
