Stage number 1 on the "Stelvio", a few hours after having toasted with spumante and panettone, now a tradition for the post-Christmas stage in Bormio, which has been dedicated to jet men for years.
The men's World Cup will guide 2022 on the Valtellina snow, with the fifth descent of the season scheduled for Wednesday 28 December, followed the following day by the third super-g. On Monday the first of the two trainings, starting at 11.30 as well as the races on the most technically demanding track of the entire circuit and on which everyone awaits the rebirth of Dominik Paris.
The two days in Bormio, but in particular the descent that "Domme" has brought home no less than six times in his career, the first ten years ago (it was December 29, 2012) when the series of successes in CdM began; the Italjet leader is going through a very difficult period and right here we will understand if something can change, also thinking from the perspective of Kitzbuehel and above all the world assault on Courchevel Méribel in February.
Paris will have bib number 7 in tomorrow's test, second of the ten blues on the track: the first will be Matteo Marsaglia, who drew the 1, then here is all the enthusiasm of Mattia Casse, after the first podium arrived in Val Gardena, with number 19 preceding Christof Innerhofer (21), Nicolò Molteni (n° 36), Florian Schieder (52) and Giovanni Franzoni (57). The other two bibs available for the descent will be played by the landlord, Pietro Zazzi from Bormio (bib number 55), Matteo Franzoso (63) and Benjamin Jacques Alliod, the young man from the Aosta Valley who will be at the gate on Monday for the 65th and dreams of the World Cup debut.
As expected, we will not see Thomas Dressen in Bormio, after the muscle injury suffered on the Saslong last week, while Kriechmayr, with bib number 6, will be the first of the big names in practice, he who can also aim for an encore in Bormio after the descent "sprint" won in Gardena, while Kilde could suffer a bit on the Stelvio, but he is still the one who has won three of the four races disputed so far.
The Norwegian with the red bib will be tenth at the start, followed by Crawford and Marco Odermatt, second behind Paris in the downhill 12 months ago and with a great desire to finally get his first win in a downhill, and what a downhill...
Clarey with 13, back from the splendid podium on the Saslong, will anticipate Mayer (14) and Feuz (15), towards the last performances of his career.
