The men's World Cup closes the long Italian tour with the traditional year-end appointment in Bormio, where the four days on the "Stelvio" will already begin on Monday 26 December, with the first of the two races scheduled towards the downhill on Wednesday 28, followed Thursday 29 from the third super-g of the season.
There will be ten Azzurri involved, but with important distinctions: for the downhill there are eight bibs available, plus the nominal one of Giovanni Franzoni who, however, must recover from the "bang" of Beaver Creek and, after suffering in the first giant in Alta Badia, will renounce the two Valtellina races.
So here is Dominik Paris, Christof Innerhofer, Pietro Zazzi, Nicolò Molteni, Mattia Casse, Matteo Marsaglia, Florian Schieder, Matteo Franzoso and class 2000 Benjamin Jacques Alliod on the track, who could thus make his debut in CdM after the great growth shown in European Cup, from 9th place in super-g in Santa Caterina Valfurva to 7th in Sankt Moritz a few days ago.
For the super-g, where Italy has only six places, other choices will have to be made and in any case Guglielmo Bosca should be there, if fully recovered from the thigh muscle tear remedied on the Saslong, with the blue class ''93 who will try precisely to be there only for the second appointment in Bormio.
In speed, Italy boasts seven victories on the Stelvio with Dominik Paris (six in downhill in 2012, 2017, 2018, twice in 2019 and 2021, one in super-G in 2018), who seeks rebirth on his magical slope , while Christof Innerhofer imposed himself in 2008 and climbed the podium twice more with second place in downhill in 2018 and third place also in downhill in 2010.
