Giovanni Franzoni is back on the podium in the European Cup: he is splendid 3rd in the super-g bis in Zauchensee

The Brescia player beaten only by the French duo made up of Piccard and Faivre, is a cent better than Weber and takes home a very heavy result (he is increasingly 3rd overall).

A first part of the season that confirmed all the expectations placed on him, which earned him the first call-up to the World Cup for the giant on the Gran Risa (where he made an excellent figure, even if he did not qualify for the 2nd heat), and now here comes the first podium of the season in the European Cup, the second of his career in the continental circuit after the one in the combined in Sella Nevea last February. Giovanni Franzoni is now a certainty, at only 19 years old and with a maturity already as a veteran: the Brescia player from Manerbio sul Garda has won third place in the second super-g of Altenmarkt-Zauchensee, the last race of this 2020 at EC level ( with the cancellation of the fast races of Tignes, it will start again on January 6-7, 2021 with the two slaloms of Vaujany, also in France). It was the day of the French double, after yesterday's Austrian one with Haaser-Hemetsberger: Roy Piccard, 27 year old son of Ian, took the third seal in the European Cup (he won the two super-gs of the Sella Nevea finals in March 2019), ahead of Mathieu Faivre by 39 cents, who started with the bib number 1 just before his teammate, among other things already third yesterday. The beauty is that Franzoni had the best time at the last intermediate, practically ten gates from the conclusion, but he lost 6 tenths (as in reality almost all of them in the final stretch compared to Piccard) to finish third, 52 cents from the transalpine and just 1 cent ahead of Ralph Weber, someone who knows how to go about super-g in the European Cup. Giovanni, who yesterday finished 13th (losing a lot again in the final 15 seconds of the race) is clearly the youngest in a ranking full of athletes with great experience, from Weber himself fourth to Sarrazin sixth (between the Austrians Babinsky and Traninger, 5 ° and 7 °, which are a ''96 and a' '98). A result that means third place in the general classification of the circuit, significantly approaching the Austrian couple formed by Haaser, winner yesterday and today only 7th, and Lahnsteiner, who instead came out in this race number 2. The other Azzurri in the points in the second super-g on the snows of Zauchensee were Davide Cazzaniga, very fast in the first part and at the end 10th, 1 "04 from Piccard, in addition to Pietro Zazzi, 14th at 1" 20, and Florian Schieder 17 ° (+ 1 ”46).
