Austrians crown Strasser, but what a joy for Feller with the red bib: "A dream has come true"

The reactions at Wunderteam after winning an amazing team result in Zagreb, even if the slalom victory from the Hirscher era is still missing. The Tyrolean: "I'm also super happy with 2nd place".

They literally dressed colleague and friend Linus Strasser in the cape and crown of the new King of Zagreb, with smiles on their faces at the top of the Zagreb slalom podium. Of course, Austria has only come close to returning to success in technical disciplines, which has been missing for almost two years: on 29 January 2019 Marcel Hirscher dominated the Schladming slalom, giving himself the 67th and last pearl in the World Cup (before and last world title in Are), since that day the Wunderteam has been only speed with Mayer and Kriechmayr, at least in terms of victories. The team test put on display today on the Sljeme hill was however of the highest level for the men of coach Marko Pfeifer: four men in the top eight and three in the four, from second to fourth place behind Strasser. Michael Matt, here mocked three years ago for 5 cents by Hirscher, reached the foot of the podium on which Manuel Feller and Marco Schwarz climbed. With statistics that are starting to become "worrying" for the Tyrolean and the Carinthian: "Manu" today collected the sixth podium in CdM without success, with four seconds and a third place in slalom (the other arrived in giant), "Blacky" seventh in slalom (but at least he rejoiced in parallel and combined) with two second and five third places in the discipline. “It was a very difficult race, the second heat certainly one of the most difficult of my career - Feller's analysis at the OESV press office - I'm super happy with second place and it's a great result of team, but now I also have the red bib. A childhood dream come true ”. For Schwarz “it's a fantastic start to 2021, I am satisfied with the quality of the performance in such complicated conditions. And I'm happy for my teammates ”. With Michael Matt able to recover 22 positions to reach an unthinkable fourth place in the middle of the race; Mario's brother is already looking ahead. “In the second I showed what I am capable of, although obviously having a track advantage. It's a result that lifts my spirits, now we have to continue like this in Adelboden ”.
