Hannes Reichelt back to imposing victory in downhill in Garmisch-Partenkirchen ahead of Peter Fill, again on the podium after the third place yesterday, and Beat Feuz.
Saturday 28 January 2017 6 minutes reading time
Party first, Reichelt contest a race with no mistakes, making a difference especially in the more technical part of Kandahar 2, what dell'Eishang. Descent after descent you understand the magnitude of its performance, so much so that in the end no one can unseat the top of the standings.
For the Austrian this is win number 12 in the World Cup, the first season that comes almost two years after the last, always obtained in Downhill in Kvitfjell in March 2015. In between two bad injuries that did not have however, it prevented almost 37 years to get back on the top step of the podium in a race that had always won in 2015.
The only able to shake Reichelt's Peter Fill. Blue does best Austrian in both the high and the low, but there is nothing in front of the painting by the opponent's masterpiece in the middle sector. For Fill, however, comes the second consecutive podium after the third place yesterday, the third season and seventeenth in the World Cup, very important result as it allows him to return to leading specialty rankings.
Third place for Beat Feuz, who confirms in great shape after the victory thrown away sull'Hausbergkante in Kitzbühel and fifth place yesterday. The Swiss, who won the premondiale last year, will be a leading candidate for the gold medal World Championship in two weeks in St. Moritz.
Fill not only for Italy also get the excellent fourth place Dominik Paris, always advancing on Kandahar after the difficulties shown in testing and tenth place yesterday. The winner of Kitzbühel is in the running for the cup of specialty also because it manages to beat Kjetil Jansrud, now fifth and, as anticipated, overtaken by Fill, who returns red bib with 32 points margin on the Norwegian, 61 in Paris and 79 on Reichelt.
Returning to the race, sixth for Bostjan Kline, always at ease on the track that gave him twelve months ago, the first podium of his career, Vincent Kriechmayr seventh, eighth for Adrien Théaux, better than the decimated French team, and a tie for ninth Aleksander Aamodt Kilde and Romed Baumann. Only the eleventh winner of yesterday Travis Ganong.
Fortunately today no accidents with serious consequences. The only falls involving David Poisson and Niels Hands, both released virtually unscathed from their mistakes on Kramersprung. Behind other blue: Mattia Casse is the twenty-second, Emanuele Buzzi, and have yet to get off Paolo Pangrazzi and Florian Schieder of which we will give the result as soon as available.
As for the general classification of the first three - Marcel Hirscher, Henrik Kristoffersen and Alexis Pinturault, absent today the World Cup - they remain such as the best blue, Manfred Mölgg, which is in sixth place.
