The call of Cortina and the world championships now on the horizon. They all want to be there for the appointment of the year and here, if Mauro Caviezel tries to return to the race on Friday in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen super-g, four days before the world championship race on "Vertigo", on Wednesday we will see in the first test on the “Kandahar”, in addition to the expected return of Adrian Smiseth Sejersted (who had missed the Kitzbuehel races due to knee problems), the surprise one of Thomas Dressen.
The Bavarian champion, a native of the Garmisch area, is enrolled in the training scheduled for tomorrow at 11.30, in view of Saturday's descent, the last race before Cortina 2021. The German speed ace, we remember, had stop at the end of November, even before starting the season, for a left hip problem with relative operation; two months to get back on skis, with the first tests a couple of weeks ago in the free field, on the snows of Kasberg, while last week Dressen made the first poles in Hinterreit (the place where Aleksander Aamodt Kilde was injured).
Now the decision to present himself in the home races for the decisive test and thus be able to aim for the world descent, scheduled for Sunday 14 February.
Wednesday's test will have an exceptional forerunner, that is Mattia Casse who will reinterpret the competitive climate, more than two and a half months after the fracture of the talus of his left foot, with nine Azzurri on the track at an "official" level: the first at the starting gate will be Christof Innerhofer (bib number 2), who obviously has very sweet memories of the place where he won the three world medals in the 2011 world championship, and is just back from the double 4th place in Kitzbuehel.
Dominik Paris opted for number 9 and will start before Dressen himself (with 11), Kriechmayr (15), Feuz (17) and Clarey with 19. Ghidoni's other seven men on track in the first of the two tests planned are Marsaglia (24), Buzzi (32), Tonetti (40), Schieder (56), Guglielmo Bosca (60) who thus returns to the cup after the knee injury remedied in Bormio at the end of December, Pietro Zazzi with the 64 and the one who could make his debut in the World Cup in the Bavarian two days, the 22-year-old Nicolò Molteni who will come out of the gate tomorrow with the number 67.
