He was in the running for one of his best downhill results and would likely be a favorite of Saturday's super-g in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, as well as a loose cannon at the World Cup. Cortina, however, vanished for Josef Ferstl when he lost control of his skis just before the cable car jump, in the heart of the “Kandahar 1” which saw the German sprinter sign a crazy flight in today's race.
Although starting with bib 24 and with the track already quite deteriorated, the son of art could have closed around the sixth position, after having already proved to be very fast in practice. Then the accident which, at first, didn't seem to have left too much damage. “Now the pains are coming, but the knees are safe. My ankle and hip hurt ”, Ferstl said in the post-race interview with ZDF.
And it was precisely the left hip that was hit hard: the federal communiqué arrived in the afternoon puts an end to the season of one of the peaks of the German speed team, already forced to give up Thomas Dressen (who led the way in the downhill today and still hopes for the World Cup).
