After the women's race on Saturday morning (10.15am and 1.15pm the two heats), on Sunday in Levi it will be the men's turn for the first seasonal specialty race.
Unlike the very young group of girls, they will be the "great old men" to pull Italy into Finnish slalom, starting with the veteran Manfred Moelgg who, at 37, will compete for the tenth time in his career with Levi and is the ' unique, together with Giorgio Rocca 3rd in the 2006 historic premiere, to have risen to the podium here (3rd in 2016).
"Finally we start to get serious - the words of the Maremma to the FISI press office - I can't wait to start slalom, which right now is the discipline where I feel most at ease. Young people push, they all go strong, but my condition is quite good. January will be the most important month, but it is just as good to leave here in Finland â€.
Stefano Gross will be the other blue to start in the first group (in the second under group from 8 to 15), but above all he is back after the operation at the crusader of the right knee at the end of March. "I am happy to be there, first and foremost - the 33-year-old Fassano confessed - Being at the starting gate is already important after eight months, so far I have only skied 15 days and the condition is not at the top, but it must not be an excuse. I will try to bring out the best and bring home something good, even if it will be difficult to be competitive right away and I will aim above all at the most congenial races, those of January ".
Instead, Giuliano Razzoli is in 16th place in the slalom WCSL: “The athletic preparation was optimal, I worked well physically, but technically I'm late. The last month I haven't skied a lot because of the conditions found on the glaciers, after all Levi is an advance of the season and I work to be there from Madonna di Campiglio (8 January 2020) onwards. It only remains for me to ski and find a shape that is still far away. With six races in twenty days in January, it will be important to be ready at that moment ".
On the other hand, who wants to start strong is Alex Vinatzer, who made his debut in the World Cup just at Levi, two years ago: “It looks like an easy track, but we must be precise and not make mistakes. It is a slope suited to my characteristics, it will be important to enter the 2nd run and then ... do the race. The goal of the season is to enter the top 15 in the world, I feel competitive on every type of track ".
