If Matthias Mayer has concluded the second round of Wengen's descent in front of everyone and it is a certainty in this season of speed, as well as teammate Vincent Kriechmayr, in Austria there is an ever deeper crisis for Max Franz.
The Carinthian, who was experiencing the best period of his career last year with two victories between Lake Louise and Beaver Creek, before injuring himself in the Kitzbuehel descent, is still far from the best and does not seem to see progress, indeed in Wengen it is going even worse : "I don't think I forgot how to ski, but it doesn't work", the bitter comment from the Klagenfurt native, who only collected 54 points in the season.
Franz cannot give himself a logical explanation: "There are three days in which everything can be fine, others in which the sensations are completely different".
And Austria has to deal with a new injury, this time within the team of giants: Daniel Meier, who had participated in the Beaver Creek and Alta Badia races (without qualifying for the 2nd heat), he was injured during a FIS giant in Berchtesgaden. For the 26-year-old from Vorarlberg, the season practically ended with an internal knee ligament rupture, ankle fracture and concussion.
