The world of winter sports and the Fisi of Trentino is in shock due to the sudden and dramatic disappearance in a motorbike traffic accident, which took place yesterday afternoon in Sant''Antonio di Mavignola (a stone's throw from Madonna di Campiglio), by Federico Collini. A promise of Trentino skiing, he was only 16 years old, turned a few days ago (on July 3). Color-bearer of Sporting Campiglio, a club where his mother Roberta Zini for years held the role of secretary, Federico from an early age had shown that he knew how to do it in alpine skiing competitions, especially in special slalom. Trained this year by the two former Azzurri Paolo Pangrazzi and Giovanni Pasini, last March 15 in Pampeago he even won the Trentino under 16 slalom title, at the same time as Sebastiano Zorzi from Fiemme. In the last competitive season, the talent from Trentino had then won an inter-zonal giant in Folgaria and two zonal slaloms in Bolbeno and Ruffrè, also hitting two other podiums in the student category. Collini had also been called up for the Alpe Cimbra Fis Children Cup to represent Trentino, coming out both in slalom and in giant. He had always had a particular feeling with the podium: in the 2019/2020 season he won the zonal slalom in Ruffrè and hit two other podiums, two years ago he even obtained 5 victories and 4 other podiums. Federico dreamed one day of being able to compete in the 3Tre of his Madonna di Campiglio, also because his favorite specialty was the slalom. A passion for skiing that has always been breathed in the family, with dad and mom who are great enthusiasts, as well as the brothers Mattia and Filippo, the latter who for a few seasons was part of the competitive team of the Trentino Committee, after winning the Italian student title. The news immediately bounced back, leaving pain and dismay among all the companions of many challenges with the stopwatch and among the ski clubs affiliated to the FISI and especially among the coaches and managers of Sporting Campiglio, where Federico had always been a member. Even the president of the Trentino Committee, Tiziano Mellarini, was struck by the news: "Federico was among the most interesting young skiers from Trentino from a technical point of view, with extraordinary skills - the words of the federal number 1 - He was among the observers to enter the competitive team of the Trentino Committee, thanks to its extraordinary results in recent seasons, including the provincial title for students obtained in slalom. He was ready to face the first winter as an aspirant and launch into the world of international FIS, where he would surely stand out as it was in his style. News that no one would ever want to hear. A life broken too soon 300 meters from his home, due to a series of unfortunate circumstances. We have no words. Together with the regional council of the FISI we want to express our closeness to the family and friends of Sporting Campiglio ”. Disbelief in the words of the president of Sporting Campiglio, Roberto Papa: “There is very little to say when these tragedies happen. We are all shocked. Federico was one of the strongest and most promising youngsters in the club. As was his brother Filippo, the Italian Allievi champion three years ago, then moved to the Ski Team and holding a ticket to the United States to attend a sports college and get back on skiing. Even the middle brother, Mattia, was with us as a testimony of how much the family cared about the beauty and benefits of sport, snow and the mountains. We have suspended training for all categories. The accident took place on Wednesday afternoon, around 2.00 pm, on the road that leads from Pinzolo to Campiglio: also due to the slippery asphalt, Federico lost control of his motocross bike, crashing into a truck. A fatality that takes away a young boy and a promise of that world he loved so much.
