January 7, when a very bad fall in training in Garmisch-Partenkirchen seemed to have ruined his season for good. Precisely on the "Kandahar", Mauro Caviezel could return to the race, in the super-g on February 5 for the last stage of the cup before the world championships in Cortina: the red-cross sprinter had injured the external ligament of his left knee, suffering a strong bone contusion, only three weeks ago, but as reported by the "Blick", everything seems ready for the return on skis and the decisive test to understand if Mauro can really do it for Garmisch and, consequently, for the foreseen world championship race in Cortina on February 9 in "his" specialty. The same brother Gino spoke of the "feeling that Mauro will be there for the Garmisch super-g", while the Swiss sprinter's technician, Reto Nydegger, added that "a track test is planned for the weekend with Feuz, Janka and Hintermann in Lenzerheide, but due to bad weather we could postpone it for a few days ”. Swiss-Ski head coach Tom Stauffer is confident: “First we will have to understand the knee response to the ski test, then we will discuss the possibility of proceeding for the return to the race. If Mauro can ski at 95% of his ability, then it will be enough considering how fast he is now ”. Right at the beginning of the season, in the inaugural super-g in Val d''Isère, Caviezel achieved his first career success, with the solid red bib on his shoulders before the accident in training and the stop imposed for the Kitzbuehel races , where Kriechmayr took away the leadership of the specialty by just 16 points. With three races available, if he returns to the track already in Garmisch at least near the best condition, the dream of the encore could still be something concrete.
