They are always the masters of the Saslong, even more so when it comes to super-g.
Val Gardena is home to Norway (10 victories in the last 16 races held in the shadow of Sassolungo) and, in the first of the two fast races, Aleksander Aamodt Kilde returns to win, for the fifth time in the World Cup and the second since these parts (two years after the downhill triumph). Almost perfect the proof of the holder of the absolute crystal ball, on the (fairly banal) track designed by the Austrian coach Brunner: that was enough to beat a sumptuous Mauro Caviezel in the upper part and in the end arrived on the AAK tails, with only 12 cents of detachment and the red bib confirmed, after the first triumph of his career in Val d''Isère (and also with a fracture in the index finger of his left hand).
And there is still talk of norge on the third step of the podium, with Kjetil Jansrud making a mistake in the final and having to settle for third place, after the second place 12 months ago, 21 cents behind his teammate.
The fourth place cannot satisfy Matthias Mayer, who loses too much at the start and in the end will finish 34 cents from Kilde, an excellent fifth place for Sander, at 6 tenths, as well as for the French Allegre and Clarey who follow in sixth and seventh position.
Italy? Expectations were not high (and tomorrow we risk an encore, in the descent on the Saslong scheduled at 11.45 am), even more so with a Dominik Paris forced to start with the bib number 1 and still able to take home a decent 11th place , with 1 ”14 behind and preceded by Cochran-Siegle (eighth), Odermatt (9th, but how many errors and points lost on the day when Pinturault was not at the start) and Feuz, who will be one of the big favorites on Saturday.
