Waiting to understand what will happen to the female giant canceled yesterday in Killington, with the concrete hypothesis linked to Courchevel, where the wide doors will already compete on 21 December (and a race could be added the next day, with the calendar then “Free” until the two days of Lienz on 28-29), the men's downhill skipped on Friday at Lake Louise immediately found a place.
The hypothesis was immediately feared by Markus Waldner and, even if it is a program really at the limit, it becomes reality within a few hours. The competition poker in Beaver Creek is therefore official, for a very special return, after two years, on the splendid “Birds of Prey”. In addition to the two super-gs and the descent already scheduled on the calendar, a new challenge is added with a revolutionized program: a single descent test (Wednesday 1 December), to ensure that the athletes can manage their energies, then two super g in series. Thursday 2 at 7.45 pm Italian (11.45 local time), Friday 3 the one already originally, with start scheduled at 6.45 pm (following in fact there will be the first women's downhill in Lake Louise).
Then there is the "classic" descent, Saturday 4 December at 7 pm, and then the recovery on Sunday 5, at 8 pm (the same time set for the second super-g that should have been held on this date). And to think that, until last week, there was very little snow in Beaver Creek, so much so that the FIS check was postponed for 48 hours to wait for the disturbance and the lowering of temperatures in order to save the races. "We are happy to be able to add a descent to our program - said Mike Imhof, president of the Vail Valley Foundation which acts as the local organizing committee - All this has been possible only with the work of our partners and volunteers, and we have to thank FIS, Infront, the resorts of Vail and Beaver Creek as well as the United States. It will be a long exciting weekend ".
If for Dominik Paris this is not the best of news, given that on the Birds of Prey he has always struggled even downhill, certainly the two Swiss champions can smile. Beat Feuz, in fact, also won the last edition two years ago, preceded the day before by the seal number 1 in CdM by Marco Odermatt, who bent Kilde in super-g.
