From today training on the glacier that will host the opening of the World Cup: Franzoni and Della Vite will be in the game, few news among the girls.

Operation Soelden officially begins. Ten days from the female giant on Saturday 23, the first appointment of the 2021/22 season, the Azzurri also arrive on Rettenbach to test the glacier that has been the symbol of the World Cup opening for twenty years.
Then there will be the finishing of next week in Val Senales, both for the male team giant players and for the girls and, unless there are any last minute surprises or problems, the blue teams for the first seasonal challenges are almost done. Few surprises in Gianluca Rulfi's women's team, clearly led by the three stars Bassino, Brignone and Goggia, who dominated last year on the Rettenbach.
Elena Curtoni is the fourth athlete in terms of WCSL (with the Valtellinese in 20th position after the excellent last season between the wide doors) and will be part of the contest, she who is working in the multipurpose group such as Laura Pirovano, Roberta Melesi and Karoline Pichler, first of all called to win the pass for the 2nd heat starting outside 30.
From the slalom team here is Roberta Midali, who last year played three CdM giants since January and went to points twice, but always beware of a possible surprise among the young girls of the GS-speed group of the European Cup, like Ilaria Ghisalberti who made his debut in the maximum circuit in Soelden in 2020.
The eight of the men's team? Few doubts starting from the vice world champion Luca De Aliprandini, who will come out of the gate with one of the first seven starting bibs, as well as for Giovanni Borsotti and Riccardo Tonetti, the only other two Azzurri in the 30 of the WCSL, and Hannes Zingerle who has always worked all summer in the giant group formed by the four reference athletes for Lorenzi and Girardi.
There will be the long-awaited comeback of Simon Maurberger, competing only in slalom in the 2020/21 season after the knee crash in Chamonix, which came a week after that February 2, 2020 in which the talent from Valle Aurina competed in Garmisch one of the most beautiful races of his career between wide doors with the final 15th place.
And in Soelden we will also see Manfred Moelgg, if he has fully recovered from the physical trouble accused in September, as well as the young people who will be permanently part of the CdM di gigante team for the whole year, namely Giovanni Franzoni and Filippo Della Vite, the latter already in the points (and what points with a 16th place!) last February in Bansko. Behind there are the slalomists, Vinatzer, Sala and Kastlunger above all that the giant practiced it all right, while the veterans outside the national cadres such as Hofer and Nani (with Baruffaldi who left the competition), could have a chance only to current season, based above all on what we will see in the European Cup.
