There are those who are in favor of moving the world championships in Cortina to March 2022, albeit immediately following the Beijing Olympic Games.
Speaking to the German press, in fact, Markus Wasmeier substantially supported the request made by FISI, in consultation with all interested parties; the German federation itself, among other things, is practically certain that it will support the proposed postponement to March 2022, in the FIS council on July 1st.
"It would be a World Cup with many unknowns, starting from the presence of the public or not - said the one who graduated from Italy in Bormio 1985, then conquered two Olympic gold medals at Lillehammer 1994 - For athletes, perhaps it wouldn't change much , but for the whole organization and how ... ".
Wasmeier does not therefore see the 13-month postponement of the event as such a complicated option: “Organizers must react flexibly in a period like this, on the other hand, FIS itself cannot foresee the development of the pandemic. We have to find the best compromise and I would understand the postponement of the world championship by one year, despite the Olympics in between. "
