Markus Wasmeier

Biography: Markus Wasmeier, born in 1963 in Schliersee, is one of Germany’s greatest alpine skiers. A specialist in the speed events and giant slalom, he won two Olympic gold medals at Lillehammer 1994 in super-G and giant slalom, as well as a world title in giant slalom at Bormio in 1985 and the super-G World Cup globe. On the World Cup circuit he collected multiple victories and podiums, becoming a benchmark for German speed racing through the 1980s and 1990s. After retiring he remained closely involved with skiing and Alpine culture, notably through his open-air museum in Bavaria. (aggiornamento: 17 November 2025)
