The Final Inspection was held on Tuesday, the decisive meeting between the delegates of FIS, FISI and Infront with the Cortina 2021 Foundation and the Ampezzo Municipal Administration to take stock of the organization of the World Championships, scheduled at the foot of the Tofane from 7 to 21 February 2021.
This was an important appointment that allowed the Organizing Committee to have a definitive and timely discussion with all the stakeholders, before crossing the finish line. Juerg Capol and Stephan Huber of FIS once again expressed, on behalf of the International Federation, their appreciation and satisfaction for the great work done in Cortina in recent years, even in spite of the difficulties caused by the ongoing global health emergency. Stefan Krauss, Tito Giovannini and Daniela Calandra of Infront Sports & Media also expressed the same great satisfaction with them.
Infrastructure, operations, sport, sustainability, marketing and communication are the various areas of operation of the Cortina 2021 Foundation which, as usual, were reviewed during the event, held in a virtual format. On the other hand, the phase of field inspections has been carried out in recent weeks with small groups of interest and specificities. FIS has found that Cortina d''Ampezzo is really ready to host the Alpine Ski World Championships, both in terms of race infrastructures and in terms of organization and communication, and was able to take note of the important effort put in place as regards the implementation of security and contrast measures at Covid-19, to guarantee the health of all participants and the local population who will have the honor of hosting the event.
The committees of Courchevel-Méribel 2023 and Saalbach 2025 also participated in today's Final Inspection, with a view to the “transfer of knowledge” and the immaterial legacy of major sporting events. "Cortina is ready to kick off the World Cup races, we have managed to complete all the commitments we have made within the established time frame and we are proud that FIS too has recognized the quality and effectiveness of the work done so far, together to a close-knit and highly competent team - declared Valerio Giacobbi, CEO of Fondazione Cortina 2021 - We are the ones committed to making sure that the February World Championships take place, in compliance with the rules and safeguarding health.
We therefore look forward to the great international ski champions arriving in our locality to give a show on the slopes of the Tofane. We know that, as a great international event in full swing at Covid, we will have even more the eyes of the world on us and this charges us with great responsibility ".
