Eighteen athletes for a double speed appointment between Val Gardena and Val d''Isère.
The convocations of the Italian home are official for the first "home" challenge, scheduled for the boys between Friday 17 and Saturday 18 with super-g and descent on the Saslong, and there is a novelty compared to the North American trip. Outside Riccardo Tonetti, who will clearly prepare the two giants in Alta Badia, and inside Matteo Franzoso for the first chance in the World Cup of the 22-year-old Ligurian winner of the inaugural super-g of the European Cup in Zinal (and again in the top ten yesterday in Santa Caterina Valfurva).
We will probably see him in his favorite discipline on Friday, in the match that the Italian national team has not won since 2008 when Werner Heel prevailed (the fast downhill has lasted for twenty years instead, with Kristian Ghedina's poker in 2001).
With Franzoso, Dominik Paris, Christof Innerhofer, Matteo Marsaglia, Mattia Casse, Guglielmo Bosca, Emanuele Buzzi, Nicolò Molteni and Pietro Zazzi have been called up, with the possibility of fielding seven elements for each of the scheduled races (it will be decided after the tests on Wednesday and Thursday).
All confirmed instead for the women's sector: the same nine called of the super-g weekend in Sankt Moritz, with the blue who will face DH and SG on Saturday and Sunday in Val d''Isère, on the "Oreiller-Killy" that last year saw Sofia Goggia second and first in the two runs, with Federica Brignone third in super-g.
The Bergamo and the Aosta Valley, the two Italian women capable of winning in this very first part of the season, will lead the troop in Savoy together with Elena Curtoni, second in the last super-g in the Engadine, Marta Bassino, Nicol Delago, Nadia Delago, Francesca Marsaglia, Roberta Melesi and Karoline Pichler.
