An all-round analysis, from the most important news of the last few days with the request to the FIS to bring the world championships of Cortina to the month of March 2022, to the resumption of activity for various national teams, up to the composition of the same .
Flavio Roda spoke for almost an hour during the "FISI Private Room", with the eventual move of Cortina 2021 which will be definitively evaluated in the FIS council on July 1st.
“A huge job has been done by everyone and with great quality, from the new tracks to the logistics. We must safeguard all of this. We had to give up the World Cup finals, an economic damage and the lack of general rehearsal towards the World Cup: we reasoned on a thousand scenarios and we understand that there are those who judge the request for a hurried move, but it must be clarified that for us it becomes a necessity since the investment in case of cancellation could be a tragedy. We would arrive in January 2021 already with an expense of around 25 million euros, possibly creating a huge hole; FISI is the guarantor towards the Foundation and, considering the situation linked to the pandemic which is still in full evolution, it becomes difficult to go ahead without a different scenario.
So here is our request to the FIS for the move to 2022: we know, it is not ideal after the Olympics, but to bring the World Cup towards the date of the cup finals (which will be held in Courchevel / Méribel after mid-March) is a solution that can allow us to have greater guarantees. We are confidently awaiting a response from the international federation, which has yet to analyze the situation well: only President Kasper had known our project for days, but now a series of checks will be needed starting from the television aspects that will be decisive. And be careful, because Germany itself with the cross-country world championships in Oberstdorf has followed our proposal and could evaluate the possible shift ".
On the resumption of activity now upon us, with the national teams leaving for the Stelvio in early June, Roda spoke of "a project that was also a need to start again, putting together a month of preparation for a number of athletes. With Umberto Capitani, and thanks also to the work of the Lombardy region, we found the square and implemented a protocol with our medical commission to get to the Stelvio safely. Two groups will be created, one is dedicated to those who have had some contact with the virus. We are talking about 90 athletes among alpine skiing, with a period also for the observed, snowboard and cross-country. The trip to South America? The risk is too high, I think we will opt to stay in Europe ".
The figure of the "covid manager" will be set up by the FISI to manage a situation that leads up to the youth categories: "First of all I hope, with the work in collaboration with Minister Spadafora, that measures will soon be relaxed to allow everyone to ski allo Stelvio - continues the federal number 1 - The protocol will also apply to our young people, the health protection of all children is the priority and the ski clubs themselves must help us. I am convinced that their group activity will start soon, but caution is needed ". And speaking of the ski club, with the change of dates and statute "the memberships will begin on June 1st, with 500 euros available in the purse of each ski club and the re-affiliation fee that is less, to help and encourage this such a difficult period. "
The drafting of the teams for the 2020/21 season? Here is Roda's analysis: “In skiing we start again from the triumphs of the women's national team in particular, but let's not forget what has been done in the biathlon with Dorothea Wierer and the triumphs of snowboarding, in addition to the satisfactions collected in various areas, such as the historic skeleton medal. We have not had the opportunity to celebrate our champions as we would have liked, but we have also suffered for many people close to our world, among all I want to remember Beppe Barzasi di Clusone, who unfortunately left us and literally gave his life for skiing. bottom.
The choices for the next year were made to give continuity to the high level, on the wave of the excellent results of the last few years, with particular attention to the youth activity with additional resources invested ".
Roberto Saracco, who suddenly left the giant team, will not be replaced “not to change the way of working outlined by the manager Lorenzi, to whom we will give support in terms of coaches and skimans for a group we care about. I feel like saying that Saracco chose the wrong times and ways, I think he needed more respect for the athletes ".
An arrow that the number 1 in via Piranesi has clearly addressed to the Piedmontese technician, who has greeted after only one year as manager in charge.
