A real revolution, which will take effect in less than three weeks. As Markus Waldner had anticipated, the long-awaited compromise between technical and fast races has been reached, to rebalance the calendars of a 2021/22 World Cup that will be very different from the recent past. The online meeting of the Alpine Skiing Commission of the International Federation has therefore ratified a program that foresees, as regards the men's calendar, the dispute of 11 descents, 7 super-g, 10 slalom, 8 giant and 1 parallel only, the one confirmed at November in Lech / Zuers. No combined (but there will be at the Beijing Olympics), as for the women's cup which will count on one more race (38 against 37, excluding the team event of the finals in Courchevel-Méribel). As for the girls, there will be 10 descents, 9 super-gs, 9 slaloms and 9 giants, in addition to the parallel on the Austrian snow. There is no shortage of news and really many surprises: back to North America, but with a double descent to Lake Louise also for men, who will then go to Beaver Creek to compete in another speed triptych, with a second super-g compared to the traditional giant . The women, after the two slalom confirmed in Levi (new last year that will be repeated), will return to Killington and then go to Canada to face even four races, with three runs in a row and the Sunday super-g. Honestly, an exaggeration considering the risk of injury related to fatigue. The parallel giant in Alta Badia (men), already skipped last year for the Covid-related speech and replaced by a slalom, will no longer be there and here is a double giant on the legendary Gran Risa; again for the men's sector, with the return of Wengen here are two descents on the Lauberhorn in addition to the classic slalom, the same program of Kitzbuehel that cancels the super-g and proposes again (it was already so, but in emergency recoveries) two descents on the Streif before the slalom on the Ganslern. And then again double slalom in Garmisch after the Olympics, with Kranjska Gora which in turn will change by hosting two giants (and no slalom) on Podkoren. The women, but this was already foreseen, will face four races in Switzerland after the Games and before Are and the finals, with two descents in Crans-Montana and combined super-g and giant in Lenzerheide.
