The proposals of the sub-commissions gathered for the traditional autumn meeting, with the idea of another World Cup in even years without Olympics. Kostelic on the combined farewell: "Why cancel 100 years of history?".

Thursday at FIS was an important day to discuss the future of alpine skiing, with the sub-commissions working to propose a series of changes to the regulations.
The only change that the autumn meeting has made official in terms of calendars for the 2021/22 season concerns the men's slalom in Zagreb, anticipated by 24 hours, from 6 to 5 January (women will compete on 4), in order to give even more recovery for the athletes in view of the subsequent technical tests in Adelboden.
A working group has been set up that has put hand to the proposal to bring to the FIS council, regarding the starting order of the speed races: it has been discussed for some time, given that the choice of odd bibs and the draw peers is far from ideal for many athletes and technicians, if we think that the 10th of the WCSL is almost always forced to start with the number 1 (especially in super-g it is almost always a disadvantage).
The new general secretary Michel Vion explained that "there is the idea of adding another big event in even years without Olympics, so for 2024 or 2028". Basically, another world championship in the middle of the Olympic cycle, in addition to the traditional ones every two years.
In the meeting, there was still talk of the possible future elimination of the super-g, while the combined now seems to have its destiny sealed (and for the second consecutive year it is not present in the CdM calendar, despite competing in the next Beijing Olympics), and of A and B level downhill races. What does this mean? In FIS we want to avoid too long races with a verdict already defined, as often happens after bib 30 (in most cases after 20), so in the future we could see an elite challenge with only 24 athletes at the start and a system of promotions and relegations during the season.
For the spring congress of May 2022 in Portugal, an official proposal should arrive on the FIS table, while the representative of the athletes, Leif Kristian Nestvold-Haugen, added to "Ski Racing Media" the desire to add more and more night races to increase the spectacle and visibility of the movement.
At the same portal, Ivica Kostelic had already commented in recent days, not without controversy from the great interpreter of the discipline which was the Croatian champion, the possible disappearance of the combined. “Why do they want to erase 100 years of history? It is clear that by disputing only one or two a year, no one will train on the two disciplines and the show fails. It would be exactly the opposite if they did ten a season ”.
