Five days to the opening ceremony: let's find out how the organization is working to ensure everyone's safety.

The 2021 Alpine Ski World Championships in Cortina, scheduled in the Queen of the Dolomites from 7 to 21 February, will be a great international event dedicated to the safety and protection of everyone's health, even in the era of Covid-19. The measures taken to optimally manage the guests expected for the event - athletes, coaches, managers, technicians, media operators, skimen - and to protect the local community, according to the "Prevention and Hygiene Protocol" drawn up by the Foundation, are impressive. Cortina 2021 in collaboration with the Sport Department of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and the Technical-Scientific Committee.
The protocol, drawn up in compliance with current anti-Covid regulations launched by the Government at national level and by the Veneto Region at local level, also takes into account the guidelines provided by FIS, FISI and CONI. To ensure everyone's safety, the following preventive measures will be adopted during the World Cup: use of the surgical mask at all times of the event. Constant sanitizing of the hands, with placement of gel dispensers in every strategic point.
Body temperature measurement at every first access to the locations and prohibition of accessing any area of the event in the event of a fever equal to or greater than 37.5 ° or in the presence of common symptoms of Covid-19 infection. In addition, a second measurement and a possible medical triage will follow when the temperature is 37 °. Maintaining social distancing in all indoor and outdoor spaces, in means of transport and on ski lifts; to this end, all the layouts of the locations in which the event takes place have been revised, to favor the correct management of flows and avoid gatherings and with diversification of routes both entering and exiting the slopes and from each reserved area.
And again the installation of physical barriers (eg plexiglass) where it is not possible to maintain interpersonal distancing. Constant cleaning and sanitizing of all the locations of the event, in addition to the use in each area of special photocatalytic films to kill viruses and microbial agents (WiWell certified system). Limitation of contacts outside one's own work group (system of "bubbles") and continuous information to participants, focused on all the measures in place and on the correct personal behavior to be adopted.
Furthermore, as indicated by the FIS, a Covid-19 Task Force was set up consisting of a representative of the FIS itself, the Covid-19 Managers of the Cortina 2021 Foundation and of the FISI and the coordinator of the medical services of the event. Organized entities participating in the World Cup (teams, broadcasters, SRS, suppliers) are also required to appoint their own Covid-19 Hygiene Manager, with the role of coordinating and verifying the implementation of prevention and control measures for their group.
BUBBLES
To promote social distancing, the World Cup will adopt the principle of bubbles proposed by FIS: it is an ecosystem of homogeneous working groups, which will have to limit contacts with the outside and the sharing of physical spaces to a minimum. event. In this way, it will be possible to preserve the principle of isolation of the various groups, avoiding the intersections between them during the entire period of stay in Cortina. The bubbles are identified by different colors: red bubble for teams (athletes, coaches, team doctors, physiotherapists, skimen, accompanying persons), FIS staff, jury staff, timekeeping staff, SRS, anti-doping staff, emergency medical and health personnel.
Yellow bubble for media, such as journalists, photographers, host broadcaster operators, foreign broadcaster operators. Blue bubble for organization staff, volunteers, support staff, law enforcement, suppliers. Finally, a green bubble for guests, guests, authorities.
In addition to the indications contained in the Prevention and Hygiene Protocol, each bubble will be required to scrupulously follow further specific indications. One of the pillars of the risk containment plan during the World Cup consists of an extensive Covid-19 test activity (swabs), to be carried out before and during the event. The continuous screening action will make it possible to identify any positives early and remove them as soon as possible from their respective bubbles, thus proceeding with an immediate tracing action.
Given the amount of people to be tested, the process is divided into two phases, with a series of pre-event swabs by and at the expense of the accredited person, of the PCR type (oro-nasopharyngeal), by team and media; a swab must be performed 8/10 days before entering Cortina, a second within 72 hours before the accreditation is collected. The swab prepared by the organization will be of the rapid antigenic type, for staff, volunteers, suppliers.
Second phase: a series of swabs during the event, of a rapid antigenic type, to be repeated every 3 days, with a maximum tolerance of 4 days only in case of force majeure or particular organizational difficulties. If positive, a verification RT-PCR swab is performed immediately and the subject is quarantined. During the two weeks of world championship races, the tampons will be carried out in Fiames, Piè Tofana, Ronzuòs and at the Apollonio Stadium, trying to make the flow of vehicles and people who will have to go to the various points fluid and efficient.
At least 24 hours in advance, the user will be notified of the place and time to show up for the test. After the swab, the outcome of the examination will be communicated to the interested party by health personnel in presence or remotely, with immediate insertion of the test result in the accreditation platform of the event. If successful, a molecular test will be carried out. In the event of a positive outcome of the rapid antigen test and subsequent confirmation RT-PCR buffer, the measures relating to the removal of the interested party from the relevant bill of belonging, the isolation and quarantine of the same will be immediately adopted, with activation of contact tracing.
In order to burden the NHS as little as possible, Fondazione Cortina 2021 has proposed a public-private collaboration to operationally manage the carrying out of antigen tests: the only contact person for the project, with responsibility for validating the Protocol and issuing the guidelines for 'PCR and antigenic tests performed on site, is the AULSS 1 Dolomiti Health Authority, while the private operator has been identified in the White Cross of Bolzano, a reality strongly rooted in the Ampezzo social fabric.
