The first official New Year season competitions that opened the Australian and New Zealand Cup calendar were held in Thredbo, Australia.

In Australia, the season started with two Giants and two Slalom. In the women's field, the two Giants, played Monday and Tuesday, were beaten by the Swedish Sara Hector, who set himself in the lead with a 1.19 advantage over German Julia Mutschlechner and 1.66 on 15-year-old New Zealand's Alice Robinson. On Tuesday, Hector's advantage narrowed: second Mutschlechner was 90th and third place for Estelle Alphand, who passed this summer from France to Sweden as he was in dual nationality at 2.10.
The first Men's Giant was won by New Zealand's Adam Barwood who was ahead of just 5 cents with teammate Willis Feasey and 38 cents for the Austrian side Daniel Meier who took the win Tuesday setting in the second race. Second place to 68 cents for Slovak Andreas Zampa, third to 1.47 the Czech Krystof Kryzl. Two Italians are present: Daniele Sorio, 23, scored seventeen and fifteenth, while Pietro Francesschetti finished in the 32nd and 27th position.
The two female Slalom, played on Wednesday and Thursday, saw two completely Swedish podiums. The first race went to Estelle Alphand who preceded Maria Pietilae-Holmner and Sara Hector who set himself in today's Slalom with 13 cents advantage over Magdalena Fjaellstroem and 54 cents on Pietilae-Holmner.
In the male field there was a double victory of Linus Strasser while on the other steps of the podium Wednesday climbed Robbi Kelley and the Czech Krystof Kryzl; Today the second place went to the other German Stefan Luitz with Kelley still on the podium but on the third step. Pietro Franceschetti scored the nineteenth and the 21st position while a double out came for Daniele Sorio.

Dopo la riapertura del ghiacciaio, la nazionale svedese femminile (con Hector già a Ushuaia e presto raggiunta dalle compagne di squadra) è scesa in pista per qualche allenamento di gigante e slalom. Ma le condizioni restano davvero critiche.
