It was already a very complicated challenge when it was decided to set up a historic event, that of the first cross-border races in the history of the World Cup.
Now, the appointment of Zermatt-Cervinia has to deal with the weather that is certainly not giving a hand to the organization of the men's stage, which includes two descents on the brand new "Gran Becca" on the weekend of 29-30 October, and the women's one to follow, Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 November.
This Sunday the FIS snow check is scheduled, but it is very likely that a few more days will be given to complete the preparation of the track, hoping for the lowering of temperatures (always very high even in these days) to snow the part. final of the 4 km track that will end just above an altitude of 2800 meters at Laghi Cime Bianche. Basically, the main problem concerns a part of the long stretch on Italian snow, after the Ventina wall.
A possible change of dates for the matches seems difficult, while this week the training of the various men's national teams continued, from Italy led by Dominik Paris to Switzerland led by Beat Feuz.
"Although the temperatures are above the seasonal averages, the organizing committee is absolutely confident that the races can take place regularly - President Franz Julen said in recent days - The first two thirds of the route are ready, in the lower third they are they are using the snow stocks accumulated at the end of last winter season, but they are not enough and it would take 2-3 days of lower temperatures to take advantage of the 'artificial snow'.

It is the biggest event a ski resort can aspire to ”.
Problems that also concern tour operators, starting from the accommodation facilities in Breuil Cervinia, while the data for this “Speed Opening” relating to the sale of coupons, albeit limited (just over 6000 per race), are good. So far, in fact, the tickets for the VIP area have been sold out on the day of the opening, as well as the 1000 for the grandstands. For the 5000 standing places, at the moment, 50% of the available tickets have been sold.
