It has returned to being the reference nation, after 30 years of Austrian domination in the World Cup rankings, even if the comparison obviously continues at very high levels.
Swiss-Ski has already decided to formalize the names of the athletes belonging to the Rossocross squadron for the 2021/22 season; the director of Swiss alpine skiing, Walter Reusser, announced the team made up of a total of 101 athletes, 5 more than in the year that ended last month.
There is some variation, with Niels Hintermann (never in the 15 in the last season after the injury suffered in Bormio) relegated to team A, where he finds slalomists Luca Aerni and Tanguy Nef, as well as Melanie Meillard and Joana Haehlen , also returning from a difficult season for several reasons. It will not change too much for them on the sporting level, at the level of technical and organizational support, but the situation in terms of sponsorships is different.
The "promotions" instead concern Sandro Simonet, third in the Chamonix slalom last January and passed directly from team B to the national team, that is the reference team which counts on 19 athletes: 12 men and 7 women, with the same Justin Murisier and Priska Nufer who enter it climbing from team A.
The list includes, on a male level, Marco Odermatt, Beat Feuz, Carlo Janka, Mauro Caviezel, Gino Caviezel, Urs Kryenbuehl (who will return after the very bad injury in Kitzbuehel), Loic Meillard, precisely Murisier and Simonet, Thomas Tumler and the tips of the slalom, Ramon Zenhaeusern and Daniel Yule.
Among the 7 women, in addition to the aforementioned Nufer, here are Jasmine Flury, the returning Aline Danioth and the four stars of the national team: Lara Gut-Behrami, Michelle Gisin, Wendy Holdener and Corinne Suter.
