Pinocchio on Skis is back: after the stop in 2020, here is the program for the 39th edition

The next weekend the zonal selection competitions, from 27 to 30 March at Abetone the national finals of the historic kermesse for young skiers. "We are evaluating the feasibility of the international event", the words of Franco Giachini, president of the Pinocchio Ski Club in Pescia.

The 39th edition of “Pinocchio on Ski” is about to start, the most popular alpine ski youth festival in Italy and among the five most important in the world. After the abrupt interruption of the last edition due to Covid-19 and the consequent stop from competitions, Pinocchio's youth skiing is about to return to shine on the most prestigious ski slopes in Italy. Over 20 zonal selections on the calendar, the snow tour of the Village of Pinocchio and four days of National Finals at Abetone. "We are happy to finally return to competing: it has been a difficult year for everyone and returning to a bit of healthy normality is important, especially for the kids", the words of Franco Giachini, President of the Ski Club Pinocchio di Pescia, organizer of the event. “Starting two months late compared to the usual schedule is certainly tiring, it involves overlapping and logistical problems, but we don't get discouraged and move on. We will try to work in the best possible way to propose a beautiful edition, albeit with all the limitations of the case to guarantee the health of the athletes and the organizational staff ". Pinocchio on Skis 2021 will officially kick off on Saturday 6 February with the zonal selection competitions scheduled in Abetone, Limone Piemonte and Pecol di Zoldo and will continue in the following weeks with the giant slalom test of the categories U9, U10, U11, U12, U14 and U16 in Bielmonte, Campo Felice, Cerreto Laghi, Courmayeur, Linguaglossa Etna Nord, Lorica, Lurisia, Moena, Monte Verena, Passo del Tonale, Piancavallo, Roccaraso, Santa Caterina Valfurva, Sarnano Sassotetto, Seiser Alm, Selvino and Sestriere. After the national recovery race scheduled in Bardonecchia on March 13-14, the grand finale will be staged on the Pistoia mountains from 27 to 30 March 2021, the traditional appointment at Abetone with the National Finals, organized with the important collaboration of SAF - Abetone Funivie Company and Municipality of Abetone Cutigliano. More than 1700 young athletes, the qualified of the zonal selections from all over Italy, will compete to win the coveted Pinocchio d'Oro, awarded to the winners of the Baby and Puppies categories, and for the largest of the Boys and Students categories a place in the Italy Team and the mention in the prestigious Pinocchio Roll of Gold. The International Finals are being defined, which traditionally attract the best skiers of the Junior and Student categories from all over the world to Abetone. "We are trying to understand the feasibility: the desire to re-propose the event in its entirety is great, but we must certainly put safety first and ensure compliance with current regulations in terms of anti-contagion," explained Giachini. Among the great confirmations of the 2021 edition is Enel, which for the sixth consecutive year renews its support for Pinocchio sui Sci as main sponsor. Support for the event by the Unilver Group is back. Glysolid is confirmed as the top sponsor, flanked for the first year by two other major brands of the world giant: Calvé and Cucciolone. Premium sponsors are the Rossignol Group with the Rossignol, Lange and Dynastar brands, San Benedetto with the Aquavitamin brand, Intesa San Paolo and Podhio which with the PDH brand signs the new personalized uniforms of the Pinocchio sui Sci staff. Also supporting the 2021 edition are DJI Fowa, Nencini Sport and Liski. Enel, the inevitable wooden puppet and all the partners of the event will be among the protagonists of the Itinerant Village of Pinocchio. At the winter oasis the athletes will be able to refresh themselves before and after the races in total safety thanks to the anti-covid protocol developed by the organization. The Village will stop in Zoldo (6-7 February), Roccaraso (13-14 February), Campo Felice (27-28 February), Passo del Tonale (6-7 March), Bardonecchia (13-14 March Sel. Di Recupero ) and Abetone (27-30 March, National Finals). The organization, curated by Sci Club Pinocchio Pescia, also wanted to thank the Tuscany Region, the Municipality of Abetone Cutigliano, FIS, FISI - the Italian Winter Sports Federation, the Tuscan Apennine Committee FISI, CONI, the Carlo Collodi National Foundation and SAF for supporting a highly anticipated event for thousands of young skiers.
